Does Anyone Actually Use The Quilt That Comes With Crib Bedding Sets?

in Crib Bedding

I always see people hanging them on the wall or draped over the rocker and it seems like they never get used. Is there any need for this?

Due to the risk of SIDS, the only thing that should be in the crib is a tight fitting crib sheet and the baby. You can cover the baby with a light blanket tucked under the arms based on weather. Like most people, I purchased the crib set that included a quilt, bumper, crib skirt and fitted sheet. I ended up hanging the quilt on the wall. The bumper was removed from the crib when we brought the baby home from the hospital upon the recommendation of our pediatrician and now sits in a closet. If I had to do it over again, I would only buy a crib skirt and fitted sheets with the pattern I wanted. I’m sure you can use the quilt once the child is older and the risk of SIDS is decreased. Although, I do really like the quilt as a wall decoration. I will most likely sell my set on ebay once my daughter is done using it. There are also a lot of swaddle me blankets and sleepers on the market that work great to keep baby warm, making the purchase of a quilt completely a buyers preference.

No, I don’t use mine. It is also draped over the back of the rocking chair in my sons room.
I found it to be rough and stiff, and definitely to large to be put in a crib, even with a 14 months old.
Biggest baby purchase I made would be the crib bedding set. Never used the bumpers are they are an entrapment and SIDS risk, didn’t use the comfort, although it looks cute on the chair, a much cheaper blanket would be cute as well. I do use the crib skirt, but I could have purchased a much cheaper one, and as far as the sheet, it only came with one, and considering I change my sons crib sheet at least once a week, I would have just boughten an extra crib, considering I needed anyways.
$150 wasted on a pretty much a sheet and crib skirt, because that’s all I use, I feel ripped off….lol.

i have never once used the blanket that comes in bedding sets. it’s too big and bulky, i don’t use the crib bumper that comes with the sets either (they say not to use bumpers too dangerous). that’s why with my second child on the way instead of buying one of those horribly expensive bedding sets bought seperates. i was in babies r us and saw that they have a section where they have all the matching stuff… bumpers, blankets (big and small), crib sheets etc. i bought a breathable bumper, a bed sheet and two blankets that all match and it was SOOO much cheaper then buying one of those bed sets that come with a bunch of stuff i can’t use anyway.

your not supposed to use quilts with the baby so i dont get why they sell them in sets like that. we bought a set because it never occured to me, now i wish i wouldnt have. ours hangs on the wall. actually the whole set things are dumb, because they dont reccomend the bumper pads either.

Yeah, you can’t really use it until the baby is much older. You can always put it with your rocking chair so that you don’t get cold when you are in the nursery. ;-)

When my son was old enough to sleep with blankets we kept it in the crib. Before then, we used it as decoration on the side of the crib.

no, I think it’s just for decoration. It’s too thick and I would be worried that my child would suffocate under the bulkiness of the blanket.

I never did with any of mine. They are way to thick and stiff for such a tiny baby. The quilt does not lay on the baby right and I am afraid they will pull it over their face.

We haven’t and our son will be 13 months old next week. Right now it’s hanging on the side of his crib.
I honestly haven’t met anyone that’s used this for purposes other than decorating.

Not really a “need”. We hung ours on the wall, makes a cute decor thats about it.

Nope, never used it. With the new SIDS research, they probably may as well stop selling them!

That's not my name December 6, 2009 at 5:35 am

Mine is hanging on the wall…people do not use them for the simple risk of SIDS!!!
